The Department of English is one of the earliest departments of the University of Lagos, founded in 1962. It runs programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, awarding the B.A., M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D degrees.

The curriculum provides a foundation in the core principles of English language study alongside electives that let students pursue particular areas of interest in language and literature.
