Prof. ANYOKWU, Chris

Chris Anyokwu, PhD, is Professor of Poetry and African Post-colonial Literatures at the department of English, University of Lagos, Nigeria. With over 100 peer-reviewed articles and papers published in reputable university-based learned journals and chapters in books, Anyokwu has built a remarkable reputation as a brilliant and resourceful scholar. He has also made his mark in university administrative work as former Faculty Coordinator, the Institute of Continuous Education (ICE), has stints as Acting Head of Department and was the Faculty Compere for many years until he joined the professorial cadre. A member of several faculty and university committees, Anyokwu has served on the UNILAG Curators committee, Faculty Appointments and Promotions Board( non-professorial) and is a member of the faculty A and P( professorial), UNILAG Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences Editorial Board, and the Central Research Committee. He is a well-known and respected poet, short fiction writer, playwright, and public intellectual, with nearly 20 books to his credit. His plays, Ufuoma and Termites got Honourable Mention in the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) drama competitions in 2008 and 2010 respectively. And his critically-acclaimed play, The Boat People, was long-listed for the Nigeria Literature Prize, sponsored by the NLNG in 2023. Anyokwu is a household name as a leading columnist in Nigeria’s print media and his online presence on Academia.com, Scopus, Researchgate.net and Google Scholar has made him a much-sought-after established figure in African literary and cultural studies.
