Adetoro was raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ogun State University. After his undergraduate studies, he pursued a Master of Arts degree at the prestigious University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, further strengthening his academic foundation in the social sciences and global studies. Driven by a profound interest in language, culture, and the arts, Adetoro developed a deep commitment to the study of Chinese language and civilization. This intellectual passion led him to undertake a second Master’s degree in Chinese Philosophy at the renowned Xiamen University, where he subsequently advanced to doctoral research in Chinese History as a Research and Doctoral Candidate.
Professionally, Adetoro serves as a Lecturer at the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies at the University of Lagos, Akoka, where he teaches Chinese language and contributes to the promotion of cross-cultural and intercultural scholarship. He is also affiliated with the Confucius Institute at the University of Lagos where he serves as a as a Chinese Language Instructor. He is an active professional member of several international academic bodies, including the Association for Asian Studies, the Historical Society for Twentieth-Century China, the Association of Critical Heritage Studies, and the International Association for Asia Pacific Studies. Adetoro is the recipient of several academic honors, including the Distinguished Student Award and the Merit Award for PhD Students at Xiamen University, as well as the Global Studies Graduate Scholar Awards in 2014 (Shanghai, China) and 2015 (London, England). He has also participated in multiple advanced language training programs organized by Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International), People’s Republic of China, further enhancing his expertise in Chinese language education and cultural studies.
